Episode 40: Subpop Not Subpar
It's Time to Celebrate the Indie Record LabelWe are back for an all-new adventure here at Spydercricket. Though we normally highlight fantastic bands that we love, we thought it would be a great time to focus on some movers and shakers in the music industry. Sub Pop Records
One of the truly great independent record labels, Sub Pop has both artistic cred (with artists such as Iron & Wine, The Shins, and Wolf Parade) and legendary status (have you ever heard of Nirvana?). Continuing the trend of finding great music since their inception in 1986, Sub Pop has put out tons of records and artists that make their mark in the music industry.
Some Trivia:
- Sub Pop's only platinum records is Nirvana's Bleach.
- The Shins' single "New Slang" has gone gold.
- Sub Pop is currently in a joint venture with Warner Brothers Music.
- Sub Pop evolved from a fanzine originally called Subterranean Pop.
- Blitzen Trapper
- Fleet Foxes
- Vetiver
- Flight of the Conchords
- Band of Horses
- The Postal Service
- Chad VanGaalen
- The Go! Team

A beautiful songwriter. A man of many tattoos. We could go on. What you should know is that Dallas Green is awesome. Your soul will be better for listening to his music.
